For Summer Internships

*As soon as you complete 3rd year and CRI 600, you are eligible to start your internship. You may do a part-time or full-time role. You have the summer and fall to complete the minimum 240 hours. All hours must be completed by the end of the first month of CRI 800 (January 31st).

September – December

1. Create a resume and cover letter ready to tailor for each application. Be sure to attend interview, resume writing and cover letter workshops to polish your skills and documents

2. Make a plan. Is there a field or company you want to work within particular? Figure out how to reach out through your networks to contact people for information interviews to learn about the company and make yourself known. Contact Human Resources and Hiring Managers to find out if the company has an internship program.

3. If there’s a particular field you have your heart set on, check out the associations listed in the Search Resources section. Associations often have hundreds of member companies and are a great way to research a particular industry. For additional tips, go to Help Getting Started.

January – March

Check the Internship Job Board constantly. New postings will go up all the time and there will be deadlines for applications.

Check the job search engines on the Find an Internship page. Use filters to specify ‘internship’ and set up alerts  so you constantly receive new postings.

Apply to as many roles as possible and be ready to attend interviews. There will be workshops to help you with your resume, letter and interviewing skills. You can also make an appointment with Emma Hartley at the Career and Co-op Centre.

March – May

This is a peak hiring time. You should be sending out your resume and tailored cover letters and looking for any and all opportunities. During this time you will likely be attending interviews.

Once you accept an internship, register the position on CRIIS and get the legal documents signed and uploaded by your first day of work.

May – August

Complete a minimum of 240 hours of work (you may work up to 420 hours if the role is unpaid or less than minimum wage.) Complete your journal entries via CRIIS.

In order to receive a passing mark for CRI 800, the internship must be complete by January 31st of the semester you take CRI 800.
